The Academy of International Business is organizing a Junior Faculty Consortium to be held on Saturday, July 9, 2005. All faculty active in research and teaching in international business are invited to participate, although preference will be given to those who have been involved in international business teaching and/or research for no more than three years.

The Boeing Institute of International Business at the John Cook School of Business, Saint Louis University will be sponsoring the 2005 Junior Faculty Consortium, and will provide a limited number of travel stipends (see below for more info).

The 2005 consortium is being organized by Klaus Uhlenbruck (University of Montana). We will engage in a discussion about scholarship in international business. In addition, this venue will provide an excellent opportunity for participants to interact with colleagues at similar stages in their careers and with more established scholars. A list of panelists and a preliminary program are provided below:
Panelists: Nakiye Boyacigiller (Sabanci University, Turkey), Julio De Castro (Instituto de Empressa, Spain) , Debra Glassman (University of Washington, USA), Mike Hitt (Texas A&M University, USA), Masaaki (Mike) Kotabe (Temple University, USA), Hemant Merchant (Simon Fraser University, Canada), Peter Rodriguez (University of Virginia, USA), Alain Verbeke (University of Calgary, Canada).
8:00-8:30   Introductions
8:30-9:15   Presentation on Teaching
9:15-10:00   Panel discussion of speakers on teaching, answering questions from audience
10:00-11:00   Short individual presentations and panel discussion on the topic of "Tenure" (for different countries and levels of schools)
11:00-12:00   Short individual presentations and panel discussion on the topic of "Career and life issues"
12:00-13:00   Lunch Break
13:00-14:00   Short individual presentations and panel discussion on the topic of "Developing a research stream"
14:00-15:00   Open forum discussion on "Hot topics in International Business research"
15:00-16:00   Panel on the publication process ("Meet the editors", jointly with doctoral student consortium)

Please note that space is limited in the program to ensure an optimal level of interaction and experience. To apply, please send an e-mail letter, stating your interest in attending, by March 31, 2005 to the address below. Please also include the following information, in the message, for distribution to other participants:
  1. A one-paragraph biography to provide others with a description of your academic background.
  2. A one-paragraph description of your current international business research interests.
Travel Stipends: Due to the kind support of the Boeing Institute of International Business at the John Cook School of Business, Saint Louis University, several travel grants are available for participants in need of financial support to attend the consortium. If you would like to apply for one of these travel stipends, please include a letter with your email stating your request to be considered for a stipend. The letter should include the following information: an estimation of your travel costs including your city and country of departure, the name of your university, whether any travel funds are available from your university, whether you are currently an AIB member, and whether you have previously received a travel stipend from AIB.
