Description
The Second Annual Conference on Emerging Research Frontiers in International Business Studies was held on September 16-19, 2004 at The James B. Henry Center for Executive Development at Michigan State University. The event was organized by the Journal of International Business Studies (JIBS) and the Academy of International Business (AIB), and was co-sponsored by 28 CIBERs (Centers of International Business Education and Research). This annual event represents the official exploration arm of JIBS. The aims of the conference are:
To encourage the exploration of emerging research ideas in an innovative environment, free from the constraints of traditional conference formats
To facilitate open discourse
To legitimize the exploration of new research domains
To redirect or shut down outmoded themes
To build a community of international scholars across both the social sciences and the functional areas of international business

Theme for the 2004 Conference
The overall theme for the 2004 Frontiers Conference was Advancing IB Theories, Constructs, and Methods. These issues were addressed by scholars at different levels of analysis, including (1) functional-level focus, (2) organizational-level focus, and (3) the extended enterprise-level focus (e.g., network, supply chains). Consequently, high-quality proposal were requested in three areas.
New Perspectives on promising new theoretical frameworks that can be employed by IB scholars?
New Perspectives on promising new key constructs in IB research (e.g., what new performance metrics should be employed by IB scholars and what new constructs should investigated by IB researchers?)
New Perspectives on new or improved methodologies and methods that should be considered by IB scholars.
