Travel Stipends
AIB offers a limited number of travel stipends for doctoral students and area scholars to assist with expenses related to attending the AIB 2010 Rio de Janeiro Meeting. Please find the relevant information below, in the respective section for each award. If you're not eligible for one of these categories, we regret to inform you that no other financial support is available through AIB for this year's conference:
- Doctoral Travel Stipends
- Area Scholar Fellowships
- WAIB Helping Hands Awards
These stipends are available for full-time Ph.D. students who plan to attend the Doctoral Consortium and/or have a paper accepted for presentation at the meeting.
A single application process will be utilized for all doctoral stipends. Recipients of the stipends will be expected to assist the conference organizers for about ten hours during the conference with various logistical tasks.
Applications for travel stipends will be accepted through a two-step process.:
1) fill out the online application form in its entirety
2) Mail, fax, or email the following items to the AIB Secretariat:
- a signed letter of recommendation from your advisor
- a one-page bio or resume
The application period for this stipend will start after manuscript decisions have been made and acceptance/rejection notices have gone out for the Doctoral Consortium and the JIBS Workshop (probably some time in early March). The deadline for applications is April 15, 2010.

For 2010, Area Scholar Fellowships will be available to faculty members from countries that are traditionally under-represented in our membership, with particular emphasis to applicants from Africa, Middle East, Eastern Europe, as well as Central Asia. The fellowship comprises of:

Doctoral Travel Stipends
The Executive Board is pleased to announce the availability of a limited number of US$750 stipends to help doctoral students attend the AIB 2010 Rio de Janeiro Conference. These stipends are made possible through a Sheth Foundation grant, as well as through individual contributions to the AIB Foundation.
These stipends are available for full-time Ph.D. students who plan to attend the Doctoral Consortium and/or have a paper accepted for presentation at the meeting.

Area Scholar Fellowships
The Executive Board is pleased to announce the availability of a limited number of Area Scholar Fellowships for faculty attending the AIB 2010 Rio de Janeiro meeting. These fellowships are made possible through generous individual contributions to the AIB Foundation. For 2010, Area Scholar Fellowships will be available to faculty members from countries that are traditionally under-represented in our membership, with particular emphasis to applicants from Africa, Middle East, Eastern Europe, as well as Central Asia. The fellowship comprises of:
- One free conference registration for the 2010 AIB Rio de Janeiro Conference
- A stipend of US$500 to help defray travel and hotel expenses
- Two years of AIB membership
To apply, please send by postal mail, fax, or email the following items, written in English, to arrive by April 15, 2010:
- A letter of nomination signed by the dean or director of the institution
- A completed conference registration form (write "Area Scholar Application" in payment section)
- A one page resume of the nominated faculty member

WAIB Helping Hands Awards
The Women in the Academy of International Business (WAIB) are pleased to announce the availability of a limited number of WAIB Helping Hands Awards to aid women full-time faculty members who have an accepted presentation at the AIB 2010 conference and meet the AIB qualifications of "Low Income Status" (annual income of less than US$25,000). Current AIB members as well as those who are not current members of AIB are eligible to apply.
These funds are made possible by the generosity of individual WAIB members. More information on WAIB and the WAIB Helping Hands campaign can be found at the WAIB website
Each award will:
- Provide the low income rate AIB Annual meeting registration fee for the AIB 2010 Rio de Janeiro Conference ($200)
- Provide the low income AIB one-year membership due ($50)
- Fill out the WAIB Helping Hands Award application form (posted at the WAIB website) in its entirety
- Fill out a copy of the AIB Registration form (do not pay the registration fee to AIB, as WAIB will pay the awardee's registration fee directly to AIB)
- Mail, fax, or e-mail the above two items to Dr. Janet Y. Murray, President WAIB.
