Junior Faculty Consortium

The Academy of International Business is organizing a Junior Faculty Consortium, which will be held on Saturday, June 26, 2010 from 8:45 am to 4 pm.

The most suitable candidates for the Consortium are faculty members who have been involved in international business teaching and research (post PhD) for no more than three years.

Alain Verbeke, University of Calgary, is the JFC organizer. The consortium will provide a unique opportunity for mentoring and career advice from senior figures in the international business field on issues such as developing a credible publication portfolio, earning tenure, providing an optimal level of service, and reconciling teaching requirements with research output demands. There will be opportunities for interaction between junior faculty and senior scholars on the faculty panel, and among the junior faculty present. Participants will also be able to discuss in small groups their research programs or specific research projects.

    10:45-11:30 Small, roundtable group discussions: What is the single most important challenge each junior faculty member faces?
    11:30-12:30 Report from each roundtable group to the plenary session and response from senior faculty panel members

    13:30-14:30 Deans' perspectives on institutional expectations of junior faculty members

    Submission Requirements:

    Please note that space in the program is limited to guarantee the desired level of interaction and learning. To apply, please send an e-mail message by February 21, 2010 to the address below, stating your interest in attending. Please also attach the following information to the message, for distribution to other participants:

    1. A one-paragraph biography to provide others with a description of your academic and other background.
    2. A one-page description of (a) your international business research program, or (b) a paper or project in process (on which you would like input).

    Please attach the above as two separate Microsoft Word documents, with your last name in the file title (e.g., YourNameBio.doc and YourNameResearch.doc).

    Application for Travel Stipends

    Due to the kind support of the Michigan State University CIBER several travel grants are available for participants in need of financial support to attend the consortium.

    If you would like to apply for one of the MSU-CIBER travel stipends, please include a separate letter with your consortium application email, stating your request to be considered for a stipend. The letter should include the following information: an estimation of your travel costs including your city and country of departure, the name of your university, whether any travel funds are available from your university, whether you are currently an AIB member, and whether you have previously received a travel stipend from AIB.

    NOTE: Separately, Junior Faculty Consortium attendees may also be eligible for Area Scholar Travel Stipends offered by the AIB Foundation. There is a separate application process for these. Information regarding the Area Scholar Travel Stipends can be found at the Travel Stipends.
