DETAILED SUBMISSION INSTRUCTIONS

1. General Submission Process
This year we are initiating a new process of submitting proposals directly to each track via the webpage submission form at http://www.cbs.dk/aib2004/. The submission system will open on November 1, 2003. All manuscripts and proposals must be submitted by January 15, 2004 (extended) in your time zone. If possible, please get your submissions in early, to avoid any connectivity problems as the submission site could be extremely busy towards the deadline.

Please note that this year the end of the month of fasting (Ramadan) will be during the last week of November. Thus, Sabanci University and the Program Chair's office will be closed from November 22nd through November 30th. Given that the U.S. holiday, Thanksgiving, also coincides with part of this week, it will be difficult to contact the track chairs or the AIB Secretariat during this week as well. So plan ahead and get your questions answered early!

2. Selection of Track and Session Format
Authors must make two initial submission decisions: choose (1) the most appropriate track and (2) the most appropriate type of session format.

Track: The tracks for this year's conference are listed below. Please refer to the Call for Papers for further details and track chair information.
  1. The Context of International Business: International Political Economy, Business History, Law and Ethics
  2. International Economics, Finance, Accounting & Tax
  3. New Institutional Environments: Emerging Markets and Transition Economies
  4. Modes of Expansion and Operation Abroad: International Alliances and Networks
  5. Competing Across Countries: International Strategic Management
  6. Managing Across Countries: Organization Theory, Organizational Behavior and Human Resource Management
  7. Buying and Selling Across Countries: Marketing and Supply Chain Management
  8. Pre-Conference Professional Development Programs
    1. AIB/JIBS Paper Development Workshop [Separate Call for Papers]
    2. Teaching Roundtables
    3. Other Pre-conference Workshops and Panels
Type of Sessions: In Stockholm we will have three kinds of sessions: competitive sessions, interactive poster sessions, and panels. This year, based on feedback from past chairs and the AIB membership, we are simplifying the program by discontinuing the workshop session format.
  • Competitive Sessions - The most polished papers should be submitted for inclusion in competitive sessions. Competitive sessions have chairs and discussants and are more formal presentations.
  • Interactive Poster Sessions - Interactive poster sessions, on the other hand, are designed for shorter manuscripts, or work-in-progress pieces. Poster sessions encourage informal, two-way interaction between the author and individuals with similar research interests.
  • Please note that submitting a manuscript as a competitive paper does not necessarily mean it will end up in a competitive session. Often times very good papers end up in an interactive poster session because of lack of space on the program or lack of fit with any of the existing paper sessions.
  • Panels - In addition to individual paper submissions, AIB members may submit panel proposals. Panels are complete sessions organized as a single submission by the panel chair around a common theme. Panels may have a variety of formats. Examples include: traditional presentations of competitive or work-in-progress papers, roundtables with no formal papers, innovative presentations utilizing software or film, and professional development workshops.
  • Professional Development Workshops - Professional development workshops may also be organized as special pre-conference activities. Individuals interested in organizing such panels are urged to contact the the preconference program chairs, Maggi Phillips, margaret.phillips@pepperdine.edu or Sue Feinberg, feinberg@glue.umd.edu

5. After Submission
Authors will be sent an automatic email message upon successful uploading of their paper on the website acknowledging receipt of their submission. If you do not receive an acknowledgment within 24 hours of submitting your manuscript or proposal, please email the program chair at aib2004@sabanciuniv.edu for further directions. All manuscript submissions will be subject to a double-blind review process and will be evaluated using the following criteria: interest to AIB members, analytical rigor, quantitative methods, innovativeness, and significance of conclusions. Panel proposals will be evaluated on the following criteria: interest to AIB members, quality, innovativeness, fit with conference theme, participants from multiple universities.

We will be enforcing the Rule of THREE whereby each person can participate (as author, presenter, panelist, chair and/or discussant) in no more than three slots on the program, with two exceptions. It counts as only one submission if an individual is both chair and a presenter in the same session, and the rule does not apply to pre-conference activities (e.g., workshops) or listings resulting from AIB officer roles.

If you need additional information or have further questions, please contact Dr. Nakiye Boyacigiller, 2004 Program Chair, aib2004@sabanciuniv.edu.
