WAIB Meeting and Reception

Dear WAIB members:

Hello from hot and sunny Texas! We are about a month away from the AIB meetings in Monterey, California. I hope to see all of you there. Thinking ahead, I would like to:

  1. Invite you to the WAIB reception.

    We will be hosting our annual reception again, sponsored by the CIBERs at Hawaii ,Indiana, Michigan and Texas A&M. Thanks so much to Hawaii,Indiana, Michigan and Texas A&M!

    The WAIB Reception will be held on Monday July 7, in the Oaktree Room, after the AIB General Business Meeting. The time is scheduled from 5:30 to 6:15, although as I outline below I would like to start five minutes early (5:25) and have a short (15 minute) business meeting BEFORE the reception starts so that we can elect a slate of officers for next year.

  2. Update the WAIB Directory. This involves:

    1. Update the address information for existing members in, and add new members to, the WAIB Directory I distributed last year at the AIB meetings.
    2. Add subject area information so that it would be possible, for example, to search for Finance, and find all the faculty members in Finance.
    3. Once the directory is updated, I would like to distribute it electronically not only to all WAIB members but also to all members of AIB. I intend to ask them to forward the directory to all the department heads and the dean of their college. My hope is that the updated directory will be useful in faculty recruitment.

  3. Formally select and vote on a slate of officers.

    Up until now, we have been running quite informally. Perhaps it's time to set up a formal executive. I would like us to have a short meeting BEFORE the reception (starting at 5:25 and running until 5:45 max) where we would meet and vote on officers who would serve for next year. I am assuming this group will write the first Constitution for WAIB. We need, I assume, four roles: (1)President, (2)Vice President, (3)Secretary and (4)Treasurer. If you are willing to allow your name to stand for one of these positions, please email me at leden@tamu.edu. I will collect all nominations and circulate the names in advance on WAIB-L. We will also accept nominations from the floor. FYI, we have one ex-officio member who is on the WAIB Executive already - the Vice President for Administration (Marjorie Lyles) represents us at all AIB Executive Board meetings.

    OK. In order to update the WAIB Directory, I need to send you the current directory and ask you to check your own information. Where the information is incorrect or your information is missing, please send the correct/missing information to Beckie LeFlore (rleflore@cgsb.tamu.edu) - not the whole directory please just your information! Beckie is our wonderful webmaster for the WAIB site: http://cibs.tamu.edu/waib. I am going to send you the current WAIB Directory in the NEXT email from me.
