From: John E. Spillan, President - Midwest Chapter AIB

In March of 2003 the Midwest AIB Chapter met in Chicago for its annual meeting and conference. This annual gathering of researchers, scholars and teachers from around the U.S. provided a venue for the presentation of scholarly works. Consistent with the theme of Midwest Business Administration Association's conference "New Realities and New Challenges", twenty-one papers were selected for presentation on the basis of a double blind-review process reflecting the diverse interests of the contributors and appropriateness of the research process. The distinguished paper award went to Raj Aroshar, University of Wisconsin -Eau Claire, Salil K.Sarkar, University of Texas- Arlington and Peggy E. Swanson, University of Texas - Arlington. The title of their paper is "Foreign Exchange Market Efficiency in Europe". This paper demonstrated originality, methodical rigor and international business interest.

In addition to the presentation of paper two other sessions of were presented that generated interest among the participants. The first session included presentation and a Q&A between consulates from Belgium and Poland. These country representatives discussed international business issues as they relate to there specific country and for Europe as a whole. They also talk about the Euro, the Expansion of the E.U. and global issues with regard to how they have an impact on international business in Europe and world wide.

The second session consisted of a joint presentation of papers between the AIB - international business track and the economic track. This combination of disciplines provided thought provoking works and discussion among the participants.

Finally, the meeting produced a change of offices for 2004. John E. Spillan of Penn State University - DuBois has moved into the Chapter President's position while Ms. Bindu Vyas of Kings College will be the Program Chair for the 2004 conference in Chicago. In addition, Christopher Ziemnowicz of Concord College in West Virginia has accepted the Sec/Treasures responsibilities.
