AIB India Chapter

First AIB - India Conference

The first inaugural international conference of the Academy of International Business (AIB-India) was successfully held at Shailesh J. Mehta School of Management, IIT Bombay, Bombay, India from January 31 to February 2, 2003 on the theme of "Globalisation and India: Addressing the challenges". The conference had 12 sessions with 31 papers presented. A panel discussion was held on the conference theme.

The keynote speech at the conference inauguration (January 31) was given by Jerry Rao, CEO and Chairman of MphasiS-BFL. A panel discussion was held on February 1. The discussants were Prof. Van Den Bulcke of Antwerp University, Belgium and Prof. N. S. Siddharthan, Head of VKRV Rao Centre for Studies in Indian Globalization, Institute of Economic Growth, Delhi.

The international participants were from the following institutions and organizations among others: INSEAD -France, Antwerp University ­ Belgium, Florida International University, USA, IIM (Ahmedabad & Bangalore), International Business School, Hyderabad, IIT (Bombay, Kanpur & Kharagpur), NMIMS ­ Bombay, NITIE, TAPMI - Manipal, Tata Consulting Services, Delhi School of Economics, Faculty of Management Studies, Delhi, Institute of Economic Growth, Delhi. XIME, Bhubaneswar.

The conference conveyed that a considerable number of issues are at stake in Indiašs attempt at globalizing. The discussions reflected the fact that there could be dramatically different approaches to globalization, a fact of crucial importance in the rapid changes within international business and political relations.

Financial Support

AIB ­ India, 2003, conference was supported jointly by AIB ($5,000) and Mphasis-BFL (Rs. 225,000.00, approx. $4750 at Rs. 47.3/$). The total amount received including conference fees was Rs. 531,150.00 (approx. $11,230) of which Rs. 152,324 (approx $3220.0) was spent on the conference. The remaining amount of Rs. 378, 826 (approx. $8010.0) will be partly utilized for the 2004 conference and for other organizing expenses.

Future Plans for 2004
1. International Conference
The next AIB India conference will be held in Loyola College, Chennai, India on 14th, 15th and 16th January, 2004. The theme of the conference will be: "Challenges of Globalization: New Role of State and Civil Society"

Time Frames for paper acceptance and submission are:

October 15th, 2003:
Paper Submission Deadline.

December 10, 2003:
Final Paper Acceptance Disclosure

2. Organizing AIB-India
