- Conference "theme": ALLIANCES AND CONFRONTATIONS: GLOBALIZATION
AND THE LOGICS OF TRADING BLOCS

- The main sponsors of the conference were: Axa, The Chamber of Commerce,
Ernst & Young and Magic Software.
- As it is the tradition of the European Academy a Doctoral Tutorial
were organized. There were 32 applications of which 12 were selected for
presentation in Paris. A prize was attributed to the best thesis proposal to
Rekha Khrisnan (Tilburg University) and a prize for the most original proposal
to Alan Muller (Erasmus University, Rotterdam).
- Also a special session for the Gunner Hedlund Award was organized. For this
outstanding and prestigious award, 18 Doctoral Theses were sent in, from ten
different countries. Four were selected as finalists and were invited to present
their theses in Paris. The winner was Marian Beise from the Centre for European
Economic Research in Berlin.
- Future Conference: The next annual conference will take place in
Athens, Greece, 8-10 December 2002. The main theme of the conference is:
REGIONAL INTEGRATION, AGGLOMERATIION AND INTERNATIONAL BUSINESS. It will be
organized by the Athens University of Economics and Business (Marina Papanastassiou).
The 2003-Conference will take place in Copenhagen, Denmark and the 2004
in Llublijana, Slovenia and 2005 in Oslo, Norway.
